This is the copy that was owned by Irish writer Denis Johnston (b. 1901-d. 1984). Johnston was a protege of William Butler Yeats and George Bernard Shaw and was a friend of Sean O'Casey. He was the author of 11 plays and four works of non-fiction IThis copy contains his bookplate and signature on front pastedown, extensive notes on front pastedown, and occasional marginal notes, usually caustic in nature about the English, in pencil on the margins of volume 1.
