During his 56 year career in the US Navy, the younger Emory served in Asia, Europe and the Atlantic. He commanded the USS Yosemite during the Spanish-American War, and acted as Naval Attache to England for 4 years. His final assignment before retirement was Commander of the 2nd Division, North Atlantic Fleet, during the first portion of the World Cruise of the "Great White Fleet" in 1908. Rear Admiral Emory retired in 1908, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery upon his death in 1917.
